So Phil Hartman died 25 years ago today/yesterday. What a loss, what talent he had. Peerless. Senselessly murdered by an extremely jealous and dangerous woman. Did he know it was coming? –not to cast blame on him, I just haven’t looked into the case in years. So more accurately, did he know it could be a possibility? No one but .00000001% of the world’s population goes into a romantic partnership with the intent to kill the other, but when you know it’s a possibility the realization is unmistakable. And you have to get yourself out of such heated and impassioned situations, or die. If not physically, spiritually.
With all the freaking out about the gaying of america or whatever by rightists, mandatory gender changes etc, they are mum on issues of domestic violence that affect men. Even when the “MRAs” were making rounds, it was clear that wasn’t a goal. Meaningless stats and bogus claims about custody arrangements on an institutional scale. The hyper/pseudo-masculinized MAGA types would rather bluster about bludgeoning women for showing their ankles in public than think they could ever be fooled by a murderess.
I read a statistic that 1 in 9 american men will be victims of domestic abuse at some point in their lives. I don’t know that it’s true but I wouldn’t be shocked if it was. Two recent cases come to mind, the murders of Charles Vallow (victim of Lori and Chad Daybell, the former to whom he was married) and Eric Richins, whose wife Kouri (?) allegedly poisoned him to death, then wrote a children’s book about mourning and grief.
!
Vallow wrote in emails that he thought his wife was plotting to kill him. He switched his insurance beneficiary to his sister (as did Richins) shortly before he was murdered by Lori’s now deceased brother. Dude was daddy to many more than just Lori and her kids; he seemed to have bankrolled her folks and sisters too. Very much loved by his own family, he was an athletic 60ish accomplished man who doted on his adopted autistic son. Breaks my heart. What a guy, mowed down by craziness, and he saw it coming. The police didn’t take his concerns seriously, and now he’s dead.
In Richins’ case, his wife had made attempts on his life he related to others since 2016. What the fuck, there’s no honor in staying. Though I can imagine that part of his hesitation with leaving was concern and love for his children.
There’s a lot of social parity now between the sexes, and an individual of either can find themselves on the manipulative or receiving end of law enforcement intervention. The former tend to be the abusers in these situations regardless of sex now. Progress comes in all forms, you know.
But the braindamaged nazis want hetero men to hold on to impossible standards to the point they die for them, for nothing, or something that can be easily litigated. What a waste. To force regression of women’s rights is to kill men as well in this day and age, at this point in the war on us.
